This historic field marks the site of a true event in 1821. Mass rice burning was conducted by Padang Matsirat’s villagers who scorched their rice paddy in an effort to stop them from falling into the hands of Siamese invaders who took over the island. Take time to reflect on the sacrifice of the locals and see the conserved area where the ‘Beras Terbakar’ or ‘burnt rice’ happened. Apparently, heavy rain sometimes raises evidence of burnt grains to the surface. Souvenir stalls and surrounding village paddy field views add to the attraction.
